History Graduate Student Association kicks off at University of North Alabama
Welcome to The Willingham
By Jessie Johnson
Hello! I am Jessie Johnson, the president of the History Graduate Student Association (HGSA) at the University of North Alabama. This website and publication exist to promote the scholarship and projects that are coming out of the Masters of History, Masters of Public History, and Masters of Secondary Education programs at UNA, as well as, to offer graduate students in other programs the opportunity to publish their work. As we continue to work ahead, we will publish blog posts that highlight projects we are working on, conferences we attend, updates on our publication, and anything else that we find exciting or insightful.
The Willingham has emerged from the previous publication of HGSA, the North Alabama Historical Review. This previous publication ran from 2011 until 2015. If you are interested in reading articles from the North Alabama, they are linked under their own tab under The Archive. After the publication went extinct the association also slipped in membership. Our current cohort has decided to revive both as a way to build a graduate community at UNA, as well as, to give us an outlet to build and refine professional relationships and other skills that will serve us as we move on to Ph.D. programs or the workforce. We hope that The Willingham showcases emerging ideas on what scholarship is and who should have access to it.
Thank you for showing your support for The Willingham, please stick around and look around our website. If you are interested in engaging with us more be sure to check out our Instagram, @the.willingham, or if you are not on social media be sure to sign up for our email blast so that you will be notified every time we make a new post. Our publication will be live on the website in May 2024!
